2026-2027 National Principals Association Federal Legislative Agenda

  • To produce a well-educated and well-trained workforce amid increased global competition, Congress and the administration must invest in the public school system, bring respect back to the profession, and reject any proposals to further marginalize the U.S. Department of Education. We are opposed to reducing or transitioning the funding of federal PreK–12 grants away from public education. We urge members of Congress to strengthen our public schools, which serve 90% of all students. READ MORE (PDF Download)

  • 10/5/2026: What You Need to Know About the Regulations for the Federal Tax Credit Private School Voucher Program | The Department of the Treasury released their Interim Final Rule for the new federal school voucher program that was created by the One Big Beautiful Bill signed into law last summer. It goes into effect on December 1, and there is also a public comment period now open until that date.
    Please see this helpful fact sheet with more information from the National Coalition for Public Education (NPA is a member of this coalition). The fact sheet outlines some of our primary concerns with this new rule. Also, here is NPA’s policy issue brief on Private School Vouchers that outlines our position on the voucher issue, including specific recommendations for changes we will continue to advocate for on the new federal program.

The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals has a long history of providing educational opportunities for students, conducting professional development training for principals and assistant principals and creating a network that allows professional educators the opportunity to work collaboratively on key educational issues—all aimed at the improvement of the educational system in Texas. TASSP is a non-profit association that sponsors both the Texas Association of Student Councils and the Texas Association of Future Educators, effectively broadening its base to affect the lives of thousands of students and teachers.

Because of the complexity and accountability of the job of the school administrator, TASSP historically has supported a state-wide policy program that strengthens the principal as the instructional leader and campus-level decision-maker. TASSP has consistently maintained a state-wide policy program that ensures Texas students a safe and orderly learning environment.

The mission of TASSP is to serve the students and principals in Texas by supporting a sound student and principal-based program. Throughout the 88th legislative session, TASSP will be working collaboratively with other educational associations to promote activities that positively impact teacher recruitment and retention.
